Reviews and Ratings
The hotel location couldn't have been better with its central spot in Melrose and convenient parking at the rear. The rooms, although in need of updating, still offered comfortable spaces, although the light making it like a furnace was a downside. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, but there were complaints of everything being locked up at times. The dining experience, however, fell short with a delayed start to breakfast and described as 'NASTY. '
My stay at the hotel was quite pleasant overall. The rooms were generous in size and offered a super view across rooftops to the abbey. They were clean, but the distance of 120 steps and 35 stairs away from reception was a bit inconvenient. The service was a mix of helpfulness and disinterest, catering to my lactose intolerance but lacking engagement at times. The location was rich in visitor attractions and perfect for exploring Melrose and the local areas, despite needing refurbishment. The dining experience had its ups and downs, with excellent food but slow service. The facilities were satisfactory, with some room for improvement.
The hotel had all we needed in the room, which was small for a double but very comfortable and cozy that we overslept in the morning. The service went above and beyond to accommodate our every need, although we had to ask for some essentials. The location, in a small but interesting market town, was lovely with the abbey and gardens nearby. The dining experience was very good without being luxurious, and the facilities were satisfactory.
